Remember that tropical fish came from a warm climate, that’s why you need to simulate their original habitat conditions in the aquarium. To do that, you’d need a heater to warm the water, and a thermometer to keep watch of the water temperature. Tropical fish are sensitive to subtle temperature changes, so having a heater and thermometer will protect the wellbeing and health of the fish.
